Solar Cell Technology

The Division of Solar Cell Technology is part of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering.

Welcome to the Division of Solar Cell Technology. Our research spans a broad area from fundamental physics, chemistry and electronics to material science applications such as thin film technology, material development and process technology.

The common theme is that our research aims to understand the interaction between electro-optical materials and to use this knowledge to develop and improve solar cells.

Our teachers are active in several courses on basic and advanced level as well as research education within basic electronics and thin film technology and characterization methods and more specifically within solar cells.

Research at the Division

At the Division of Solar Cell Technology we research thin film technology, nanostructuring and characterisation methods for solar cells and we manufacture our materials and solar cells in Ångström's clean room (MSL), both in our own equipment and in MSL equipment.

The different functional parts of the solar cell can be used to describe our research on back contacts, light absorbing materials, buffer layers, transparent conductors and module technology. More innovative and curiosity-based research is conducted in plasmonics for solar cells, new materials, but we also research new solar cell types, such as tandem solar cells.

Our research consists largely of externally funded projects and is partly funded within the framework of STandUP and faculty funds.
