The major aims of the biosafety level 3 (BSL3) laboratory at the Zoonosis Science Center (ZSC) at the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Microbiology (IMBIM) at Uppsala University, are to provide services for design of experiments and analyses on BSL3 organisms [1] for internal and external research groups. The facility has a solid experience for research mainly on zoonotic BSL3 viruses (such as flavi-, hanta-, and influenza viruses) but will be further expanded for studies also on BSL3 bacteria. The laboratory offers all required experience and equipment for isolation, amplification, and characterization of BSL3 microorganisms. Being the only laboratory handling human pathogens of BSL3 in Uppsala, we also serve the Uppsala University hospital (Akademiska sjukhuset) with analyses that require BSL3. The laboratory was pre-built inside a container in France and was lifted and placed on the roof of the Biomedical Center (BMC) in Uppsala in 2015.
For costs for internal and external users see price list Word, 20 kB.
