Elin Svensson is new Professor of Pharmacometrics

Elin Svensson ny professor

The Faculty of Pharmacy congratulates Elin Svensson on being promoted to new Professor of Pharmacometrics at Uppsala University. “I feel both proud, happy and somewhat relieved,” says Elin, who is currently starting her work in a new international collaboration with a focus on some of the world’s most vulnerable patient groups.

Elin Svensson, researcher at the Department of Pharmacy, is promoted to new Professor of Pharmacometrics at Uppsala University. With this appointment, the Faculty of Pharmacy’s research environment in pharmacometrics further consolidates its frontline position in the academic world.

“I receive the decision on my promotion with both pride, joy and somewhat relief, since it comes with a certain tension to have your work dissected down to the smallest detail. Now I look forward to the opportunities that a professorship at Uppsala University brings. Not least, I hope that it will contribute in giving me a stronger voice in international contexts,” says Elin Svensson.

Elin Svensson was recently granted € 300,000 – equivalent to SEK 3.45 million – by the European EDCTP program to engage in two research collaborations with focus on the development of drug treatments for active tuberculosis. The projects will be conducted in collaboration between European and African organisations, and in early June the steering committee of the Tuberculosis Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (TASP) met to initiate its operational work.

“Resistant tuberculosis bacteria are claiming an increasing number of human lives and once again pose a global threat. Within the framework of TASP, we also aim to develop the healthcare infrastructure in a number of African countries that are home to some of the world's most vulnerable patient groups. We are facing a both important and inspiring assignment, and our initial meeting provided a good starting point for the work waiting ahead,” states Elin Svensson.

Already in 2023, the Department of Pharmacy – via the appointments of Maria Kjellsson and Sara Mangsbo to Professors of Pharmacokinetics and Protein and Antibody Drugs respectively – became the first department at the Faculty of Pharmacy to have more women than men among its professors. With the appointment of Elin Svensson, the department takes yet another step in the same direction.

“To me, it is of great importance to work in an environment that utilizes women's expertise and clarifies the career paths offered within academia. Our department is already a scientific home to many female role models, and I hope that this will inspire even more young researchers to discover the many opportunities we provide,” says Elin Svensson.
