SweDeliver summer internship attracts Europe's top master's students

In the summer of 2026, the SweDeliver competence center offers European master’s students the opportunity to do a six-week internship within the center’s industrial network for the sixth year in a row. Interest in research at the forefront of pharmacy continues to increase, and when the application window closed, a new record was set with 147 high-quality applications from across the continent.

“The candidates are consistently of a very high standard with impressive experience from both education and professional life. Our vision for SweDeliver is to become a world leader in drug delivery, and a key success factor is our ability to attract and retain the top researchers of the future. The fact that so many talented students today are applying for our summer internships confirms that we are on the right track,” says Caroline Fronzak Alvebratt, Project Coordinator at the Department of Pharmacy.

Companies that welcome a summer intern have the opportunity to meet the next generation of experts at an early stage. The pros also include an extra injection of enthusiasm and curiosity in the laboratory as well as a valuable resource in an ongoing project. Many partners also emphasise the opportunity to contribute to the strategically important investment in skills supply in Swedish drug development.

“Our experience of hosting summer interns are entirely positive. We get the chance to develop our routines for introducing new team members into ongoing processes. At the same time, we give students practical insights into industrial operations, so for us it is a natural choice to continue welcoming interns within the framework of SweDeliver,” says Pegah Nabavi, Head of Formulation Development at Meribel Pharma Solutions.

For students, the internship is a unique chance to absorb the latest knowledge in modern drug delivery, gain industrial experience and establish personal networks in the industry for their future careers.

“Aiming for a doctoral position in drug delivery, I am well acquainted with SweDeliver, and when the opportunity to do an internship arose, I never hesitated. In hindsight, I am so incredibly grateful for everything I have gained, and to all of you considering applying, I just want to say: do it. You will gain knowledge far beyond what you ever learn in the classroom,” recommends Anita Nicoletti, a master's student who spent the summer of 2025 at AstraZeneca's site in Mölndal.

Currently, the process of matching the right students with companies in SweDeliver's partner network is underway. Candidates who receive an internship offer are expected to be committed, ready for hard work and to take on active roles in innovative research projects. In exchange, they receive full pay, valuable experience and their first contact with a competence center that has, since its launch in 2020, established itself as a leading force at the intersection of academia and industry.

“In a short time, we have formed an organisation whose strengths and continuity arouse interest far beyond Sweden's borders. That we also recently implemented several strategic initiatives makes us ready to further amplify SweDeliver’s operations, and we now look forward to introducing this summer's interns to some of the exciting opportunities that await them in their future careers,” says Christel Bergström, Center Director and Professor at Uppsala University.
