About us

CHAP is an international and interdisciplinary research group focusing on improving the mental health and wellbeing of children, youth and parents, through science, clinical development, and translational work.

Motto: For children and parents – With children and parents.

The group counts 30 members and is led by Professor Anna Sarkadi, specialist in social medicine. The group has people with backgrounds in psychology, public health, medicine, health economy, social-, behavioural-, political- and nursing science. Many of our PhD students and researchers are also clinicians within paediatrics, child health services, child psychiatry, and social medicine.

Our mission is to develop, evaluate and support the implementation of programs and methods aimed at promoting the mental health and wellbeing of children and parents. We use real-world evaluation to provide a basis for evidence-based decisions. We place special emphasis on bringing forth unheard voices about interventions and events and involve children, parents and users in our research.

We employ a determinants of health framework and a health equity perspective in our research and education where we participate in teaching medical, nursing, PhD and master students.

We do outreach, consultation, research communication and comment current events and are the natural collaboration partner for professionals, policymakers, researchers and students regarding research on children’s and parents’ mental health and wellbeing.
