Nominate for the Bjarne Ahlströms Minnesfond 2024 award

The Faculty of Medicine is invited to submit four nominations for the Bjarne Ahlströms Minnesfonds 2024 award in clinical neurology. Send your nomination proposal to the Faculty Office for Medicine and Pharmacy by 1 April 2024.

The Bjarne Ahlströms Minnesfond för Medicinsk forskning (Bjarne Ahlström Memorial Foundation for Medical Research) invites the Swedish medical faculties to nominate for the 2024 award in clinical neurology, especially inflammatory mechanisms affecting the function of the central or peripheral nervous system. The prize is SEK 1,050,000 and consists of a personal award of SEK 100,000 and an unconditional research grant of SEK 950,000 to be administered by a Swedish higher education institution.

• The nominee must have completed their doctorate after 1 January 2015 and conduct successful research (PI for grants) with international impact in the subject area (high-quality publications).
• The selection criteria are research excellence (international impact) and clinical relevance in issues with a defined patient group in mind, whether the research focuses on basic mechanisms, prevention, or clinical intervention.
• The awardee is expected to account for how the grant has been used within 24 months of receiving the award.

Each medical faculty in Sweden can nominate up to four candidates. The faculties are responsible for monitoring the gender balance. A scientific committee will review the proposals received, and the most prominent nominees will be invited to submit a comprehensive dossier. The laureate will be selected by the Foundation’s Board of Directors, and the award will be presented in autumn 2024.
