The Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation has decided to award grants to five researchers at the Disciplinary Domain of Medicine and Pharmacy within the so-called Wallenberg Scholars programme.

The Wallenberg Scholars programme was initiated in 2009 with the aim of providing some of Sweden’s best researchers with a larger grant that can be freely used for research for five years with no restrictions. The idea was to provide leading researchers with the freedom and resources to motivate them to stay in Sweden.

The decision from the latest call for applications means that five researchers from Medfarm will receive grants within the programme.

With a total of 20 Wallenberg Scholars, Uppsala University is also foremost among all higher education institutions in Sweden.

The following researchers from Medfarm have been awarded grants from the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation:

Leif Andersson, Professor of Functional Genomics, Department of Medical Biochemistry and Microbiology.

Christer Betsholtz, Professor of Vascular Biology, Department of Immunology, Genetics, and Pathology.

Lena Claesson-Welsh, Professor of Medical Biochemistry, Department of Immunology, Genetics, and Pathology.

Kerstin Lindblad-Toh, Professor of Comparative Genomics, Department of Medical Biochemistry and Microbiology.

Mia Phillipson, Professor of Physiology, Department of Medical Cell Biology.
