The Disciplinary Domain of Medicine and Pharmacy, Medfarm, is driven by the desire to make a difference through research, education and collaboration. Through close cooperation with the region, municipalities, and industry, we develop new knowledge that benefits students, stakeholders, and society. In a world facing significant challenges, we continue to push forward to contribute to a better future together.

Occupational therapists get new programme and training environment

Occupational therapists are sought-after experts in health promotion, prevention and rehabilitation. They help many people lead good and meaningful lives and contribute to creating a more accessible society. I am therefore both proud and happy that this autumn semester, Medfarm is further expanding its educational offerings with an entirely new programme, the Occupational Therapy Programme.

The practical skills training will mainly take place in our new and modern training environment, Practicum. This training environment at BMC includes apartment interiors and innovation rooms, with dedicated rooms designed for the Occupational Therapy Programme. Students from the Physiotherapy Programme, the Pharmacy Programme and the Medical Programme, among others, will also be trained here. Practicum will be inaugurated on 15 October. A significant step forward indeed!

Medfarm is growing and being evaluated

It is also pleasing that Medfarm's research continues to grow, largely thanks to significantly increased external research grants. To further strengthen collaboration, especially between clinical and basic science researchers, the Disciplinary Domain, together with Uppsala University Hospital and Region Uppsala, plans to announce funding for a new joint initiative this autumn: Clinical Academic Groups (CAGs). By announcing funding for two new multidisciplinary CAGs, Medfarm aims to stimulate the forward-looking development of new knowledge with tangible positive effects on healthcare.

In parallel with the preparation for the visit of our KoF24 evaluation panel on 7–11 October, Medfarm has now also begun preparations for the Swedish Research Council's national evaluation of our medical and pharmaceutical basic sciences. Despite these dual evaluations, I feel very confident, thanks to the responsible teams working at express speed during the first weeks of the semester and, not least, thanks to our continued strong development of both new innovations and scientific publications. Together, we strive forward!

I look forward to continuing to work with you this autumn.
