The winter cold now seems to have loosened its grip, and as I write these lines, the March sun has begun to show itself from its very best side. March is not only the month when spring gets underway – it is also when the University and the Disciplinary Domain truly pick up pace with the operational plan. Every third year, elections for the Domain Management and Domain Board are another reliable sign of spring.
Work on next year’s operational plan has already begun
We have submitted a forecast and analysis of the development of the administrative capital, and a forecast of completed educational performance, to the Planning Division. Ahead of the University Board’s decision on the operational plan on 10 June, discussions now lie ahead regarding overproduction, funding for first-cycle and second-cycle education, strategic initiatives, and the responsibility and financing of study places at meetings with the University Management and the Vice-Chancellor’s Advisory Council.
The University’s funding for research and third-cycle education is expected to increase by approximately SEK 35 million to SEK 2,585 million for 2027. Of this, approximately SEK 699 million will go to the Disciplinary Domain of Medicine and Pharmacy. Of the University’s funding for first-cycle and second-cycle education, totalling SEK 2,258 million, the Disciplinary Domain will receive approximately SEK 542 million. This includes new funding of almost SEK 17 million for the twelfth semester of the Medicine Programme.
The Faculty Office for Medicine and Pharmacy is now collecting material from departments, committees and centres ahead of the budget meeting of the Domain Board’s Executive Committee on 6 May. After that, the Domain Board will take some interim decisions in May and June, and the tables and texts will be finalised, so that the operational plan can be circulated to the departments for consultation in September. Finally, we will adopt the Operational Plan 2027 at the Domain Board’s meeting on 14 October.
Time for elections to the Domain Management and the Domain Board
Last autumn, the Disciplinary Domain elected an electoral assembly tasked with preparing proposals for the Vice-Rector and Deputy Vice-Rector, as well as conducting elections for the other members of the Domain Board for the coming term of office. The Electoral Assembly consists of seven electors from the Faculty of Pharmacy and 24 electors from the Faculty of Medicine. In addition, the students have three representatives with the right to attend and speak.
The Electoral Assembly has appointed a nomination committee, which has worked hard to prepare proposals for candidates. According to the guidelines, the Electoral Assembly must submit proposals for Vice-Rector and Deputy Vice-Rector to the Vice-Chancellor no later than 30 April. In addition to these, the nomination committee is to prepare proposals for, and the Electoral Assembly is to conduct elections of, the deans and deputy deans, as well as one teacher representative from the Faculty of Pharmacy and eleven teacher representatives from the Faculty of Medicine for the Disciplinary Domain’s Domain Board.
Summer and a new operational year are approaching
Once all elections have been conducted and the majority of the operational plan has been decided, we can look forward to summer, holidays and, in due course, a new operational year.
