Call for application: AI4Research 2025

The research fields artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) are growing and developing rapidly on a global scale. In order to take advantage of the opportunities available, Uppsala University has established a university-wide five-year project tasked with renewing, strengthening and further developing AI/ML research. During this final year of the project (2025), applicants from the Disciplinary Domain of Science and Technology (TekNat) will be considered.

AI4Research offers researchers funding for a part-time sabbatical (50% of a full-time position), for a maximum period of one year in the research environment. The application deadline is 2024-05-31.

AI4Research unites researchers in a shared space during internal sabbaticals while researchers remain active in their ‘home’ departments part-time. The project aims to create collaborative spaces, form trust-building networks, and share ideas about teaching and research in the fields of AI and ML.

The researchers awarded sabbatical funding are expected and encouraged to bring 1-2 younger researchers from their research environment to the project. These can be researchers, post-doctoral researchers and doctoral students of various types. The accompanying researchers are expected to be funded through their own external funding or faculty grants, and not the funding awarded by AI4Research. The AI4Research project offers a workspace that enable accompanying researchers to participate in the day-to-day operations.

AI4Research's grant amounts to a maximum of 50% of a full-time position for a maximum of 12 months. To promote the interdisciplinary and collaborative nature of the project the 2025 call for applications welcomes projects with two researchers attached, ideally from different departments. Projects with one researcher will be equally considered.
