Academic Collaboration Chile Sweden (ACCESS)

Academic Collaboration Chile Sweden (ACCESS) is a network consisting of Swedish and Chilean universities. The goal of the network is to promote increased research collaboration between Sweden and Chile.

Application deadline: 21 April 2025

Researchers and PhD students at Uppsala University can now apply to participate in ACCESS Forum 2026, taking place January 12–16, 2026, in Concepción, Chile.

ACCESS is an established platform for research collaboration between Sweden and Chile. The forum brings together researchers from various disciplines to discuss shared societal challenges and initiate new research projects. The goal is to strengthen academic exchange and foster long-term collaborations between the two countries.

Travel Grants

Researchers and PhD students at Uppsala University who apply to participate in the forum can also apply for a travel grant of up to 20,000 SEK per person. These grants are intended to cover part of the travel and accommodation costs associated with the forum.

Application

To participate in the ACCESS Forum 2026 in Chile you are required to complete two steps by 21 April 2025:

  1. Submit the official ACCESS application
  2. Complete this participation form if you are employed at Uppsala University.

Applicants will receive the results of their application in mid-/late-June 2025. Please note that participation is limited and not guaranteed, even if you have your own funding.

Focus areas

Each ACCESS Forum focuses on a select number of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which provide the framework for the Forum’s research themes. Before each forum, researchers are invited to apply to organize a research theme that can be linked to the forum’s SDGs.


The SDGs selected for the 2026 forum are:

  • UN SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being
  • UN SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
  • UN SDG 13: Climate Action
  • UN SDG 14: Life Below Water
  • UN SDG 15: Life on Land

Opportunities for Staff

The target audience includes both researchers who are curious about initiating new collaborations with Chile and those who already have experience with previous or ongoing collaborations with Chile. Special initiatives are also made for PhD students.
