Academic Collaboration Chile Sweden (ACCESS)
Academic Collaboration Chile Sweden (ACCESS) is a network consisting of Swedish and Chilean universities. The goal of the network is to promote increased research collaboration between Sweden and Chile.
The target audience includes both researchers who are curious about initiating new collaborations with Chile and those who already have experience with previous or ongoing collaborations with Chile. Special initiatives are also made for PhD students.
Focus areas
Every 18 months, the ACCESS Forum is organized (alternating between Sweden and Chile). The ambition is to create a creative dialogue and to foster new connections between Swedish and Chilean researchers.
Each ACCESS Forum focuses on a selection of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which form the framework for the forum’s research themes. Ahead of each forum, researchers are invited to apply to organize a research theme that can be linked to the forum’s selected SDGs..
The SDGs selected for the 2026 forum were:
- UN SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being
- UN SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
- UN SDG 13: Climate Action
- UN SDG 14: Life Below Water
- UN SDG 15: Life on Land

Call for Research Themes for the ACCESS Forum 2027
The process for the organization of the ACCESS forum 2027 has now started.
ACCESS is an established platform for research collaboration between Sweden and Chile. The forum brings together researchers from various disciplines to discuss shared societal challenges and initiate new research projects. The goal is to create long‑term partnerships and strengthen research exchange between the two countries.
The next forum will take place on 14–18 June in Gothenburg, and the first step in this bottom‑up process is the call for Research Themes. Each Research Theme is proposed and organized by one researcher from Sweden and one from Chile. Once the themes have been selected, registration for participants will open.
We hereby invite you to propose a research theme for the next ACCESS Forum. If you need assistance with matchmaking, kindly feel free to make use of the tools available for looking for a co-applicant; and for those looking to join a proposal).
Funding for participation in the forum will be available for all theme leaders.
