The CASI project

Uppsala University is participating in CASI - Coordinated Assessment for Strategic Internationalisation, a collaboration project that aims to analyse the conditions for international academic collaboration in a changing geopolitical world.

The project is run by Lund University in collaboration with Karolinska Institutet, the Royal Institute of Technology, the University of Gothenburg and Stockholm University.

The starting point is that changes in the world around us have made international academic cooperation more complex. Some factors that have contributed to the increased complexity are:

  • geopolitical changes;
  • security policy conflicts,
  • Decline in democracy
  • reduced scope for academic freedom.

What does the CASI project do?

CASI offers higher education institutions a common basis for managing change and making strategic decisions regarding international collaborations. This can mean strengthening risk assessments, designing exit strategies, and increasing security awareness. By sharing knowledge and experiences, benefiting from each other's competencies and coordinating external monitoring and analysis, CASI can contribute to streamlining and quality assuring international work. The project also aims to create better conditions for rapid information sharing and joint analysis in the event of acute events.

The CASI project has developed a framework with a checklist to identify various challenges and risks in connection with international collaborations. CASI also conducts webinars on various themes, open to all higher education institutions in Sweden.
