Biological material
Biological waste from research and teaching may carry an increased risk of infection/contamination and is therefore handled as either combustible waste, biological waste, infectious waste, or animal by-products, depending on legislation, the material, risk assessment, and the routines at respective campus.
If you wish to dispose of animal by-products, they are generally placed in the same container as infectious waste (UN3291), but must also be labelled according to one of the following options, depending on the category¹:
- ”Animaliska biprodukter – Kategori-1. Avsett för förbränning. Endast för bortskaffande”
- ”Animaliska biprodukter – Kategori-2. Avsett för förbränning. Endast för bortskaffande”
- ”Animaliska biprodukter – Kategori-3. Avsett för förbränning. Endast för bortskaffande”
Additionally, a physichal trade document² “handelsdokument” must be prepared in 3 copies — one accompanies the transport and the other is retained by you as the sender for at least two years. The third trade document should be sent via internal mail to Henrik Gradstedt, Segerstdthuset, Byggnadsavdelningen (henrik.gradstedt@uu.se).
Carcasses from CFVUU are handled according to a separate procedure available from CFVUU.
Plant-based material that is not considered to pose an increased risk of infection/contamination, is not genetically modified, or does not originate from an imported/invasive species, is handled as combustible waste.
