Sorting, packing and removal of laboratory waste

The information is intended for campus managements or others who are about to order sorting, packing and removal of laboratory and chemical waste.

All sorting and removal of laboratory and chemical waste is done by RagnSells. No other contractors should be hired since Uppsala University has a contract with RagnSells.

Chemical waste

The chemical waste should be labeled with as much information as possible, eg. product name, concentration of constituent substances, content of water and pH. RagnSells can then handle the waste in the safest and most cost-effective way.

Laboratory waste

Other waste than chemical waste from laboratories is packed by the laboratory personnel into laboratory waste containers ("yellow boxes"). RagnSells puts filled boxes on pallets and writes transport documents that are handed over to the deliverer. The waste can be divided in contaminated and non contaminated. The non contaminated should be takn care of as combustible waste.

Transport preparations must be made by RagnSells no later than 10 working days after ordering date. Collection of laboratory waste must take place no later than 5 working days after ordering date. If RagnSells fails on the day agreed upon for the performance of the service, the university is entitled to a fine of SEK 2000.

RagnSells offers free counselling by phone during office hours. See contact information above.

For details about the agreement, eg. prices and routines, see the agreement in the university's contract database. (search word "avfall")

For information about transport documentation, notification rules etc see "Definitions and legislation".
