The new tramway
Uppsala Municipality has now begun preliminary works along the section from Regementsvägen to Lägerhyddsvägen. During this phase, underground utilities will be relocated and Regementsvägen will be widened in preparation for the construction of the new tramway.
Up-to-date information
- Interruption to district heating supply, 26 August. On 26 August, there will be an interruption to the district heating supply between 7 am and 7 pm. During this time, the Ångström Laboratory will not have access to hot water or heating.
- Gula stigen, one of the paths across the field, has been closed since 26 January and until further notice due to construction work on the new tramway.
- The pedestrian and bicycle tunnel under Dag Hammarskjölds väg will be completely or partially closed for periods during the spring and autumn. Uppsala Municipality recommends that you choose another route even when the tunnel is open, as it can be crowded and noisy at the site.
During the work, there may otherwise be:
- limited accessibility (but always access to the Ångström Laboratory entrances and parking lots)
- noise from machinery and transport
- temporary changes in traffic flow.

Akademiska Hus’ plans and vision for the redevelopment around Building 10 during the summer and autumn of 2026
- Reconstruction of cycle parking facilities around Building 10. The cycle parking spaces that will be removed to the east of Building 10 due to the tramway construction will be compensated by additional parking spaces to the north of the building. Temporary cycle racks will be available to the east of Building 2 during the reconstruction period.
- The flagpoles outside Building 10 will be relocated to a new nearby location.
- Charging lockers for electric bicycle batteries will be installed.
- New planting will be established outside Building 10 to enhance the environment and promote biodiversity. Some trees will be relocated to other areas adjacent to Ångström.
- A new parking area for electric scooters will be created.
- Two parking spaces for people with reduced mobility will be established to the west of Building 10, as those to the east of the building will eventually be removed due to the tramway.
The Octopus project
The Octopus project is a modernization project initiated by the property owner, Akademiska hus. The project includes a number of measures with the aim of saving a significant amount of energy and thereby also reduced carbon dioxide emissions for the Ångström Laboratory. The energy-saving measures that are planned include
- recovering heat, mainly from process equipment, by moving heat within the property
- exchanging older fans and pumps for new and more energy-efficient models
- improving and modernising the ventilation systems and thus increasing the recycling rate
- replacing ventilation controls in office spaces and reviewing air flows and temperatures
- replacing central vacuum cleaner
- modernising lighting
The Octopus Project is a relatively extensive project that will take place in different stages over about 2-3 years. Even though most of this work will take place in different operating spaces, we as tenants will be affected in various ways, mainly in connection with work in fan systems and when replacing ventilation devices and control units.
