Exchange studies

The exchange agreements within science and technology are available to all students, regardless of which department or faculty you belong to, provided that you meet the eligibility requirements. To apply for exchange studies through the Faculty of Science and Technology or one of its departments, you must meet the following criteria:

• The applicant must be registered as a full-time student in a programme at Uppsala University, or at another partner university within a joint programme with Uppsala University, during the semester preceding the application and the semester preceding departure.
• During the semester preceding the application, the student must have completed at least 15 higher education credits (hp) within the programme in which the student was registered in the previous semester.
• In both application rounds, the student must have completed 45 higher education credits (hp) in programme-relevant courses during the most recently completed academic year.
  For students enrolled in a master’s programme (year 1), this requirement is replaced by a completed bachelor’s degree.

In certain cases, an individual assessment may be carried out. This assessment may, for example, take into account whether the student has passed courses specifically related to the subjects they plan to study during the exchange and is therefore considered suitable for exchange studies despite weaker overall results at Uppsala University. It may also apply if a larger number of incomplete courses is due to a temporary issue that the student no longer has but has not yet had time to compensate for.
A student who is deemed eligible through an individual assessment will be placed in the final selection group and will not take a place from another student.

If the applicant has an approved study break during the application period, the applicant must have been registered as a full-time student at Uppsala University prior to the study break. Otherwise, the same requirements as above apply.

Students with residence permits

Students studying in Sweden with a residence permit must check with the Swedish Migration Agency (Migrationsverket) whether participation in exchange studies or an internship outside Sweden may affect their residence permit. More information is available on the Swedish Migration Agency’s website.
