Incoming exchange student
If your home university has an exchange agreement with the Faculty of Science and Technology at Uppsala University, you have the opportunity to attend exchange studies in Uppsala or Visby for one or two semesters.
This page shows a timeline and instructions on how you proceed once you have been nominated for exchange studies by your home university.
1. Nominated for exchange and course application
If you've been nominated and accepted an offer for exchange studies at Uppsala University through an agreement with the Faculty of Science and Technology, your initial step should be to think about the courses you'd like to take during your exchange.
You need to apply for your exchange courses during the application period for the exchange semester.
Application periods for incoming exchange studies
Nomination period for coming autumn semester
- March 1–April 1
Nomination period for coming spring semester
- September 1–October 1
Apply for exchange in Uppsala during autumn semester
- March 15–April 15.
Apply for exchange in Uppsala during spring semester
- September 15–October 15.
Plan and map your exchange courses
We recommend that you use the course guide to plan and map out your exchange courses before making your application.
2. Letter of admission and Certificate of Acceptance
Once you have applied for your exchange courses and uploaded all of the needed documentation to MoveOn you will recieve a letter of admission. This letter will contain the following information on:
- Your new student id number at Uppsala University
- The academic year and semester you have been admitted to
- The courses to which you have been admitted to and their respective course codes
- Your total of course credits
- Student insurance coverage
If you do not hold EU/EES citizenship you will need to apply for a residence permit (and where necessary an entry visa). You will be requested to upload your Certificate of Acceptance to the application.
Please contact your coordinator at Uppsala University if you have not already recieved the Certificate of Acceptance.
3. Signed Online Learning Agreement
If your exchange is organised through Erasmus+ you need to sign an Online Learning Agreement. This is a digital agreement between the two partner universities and you as a student regarding your exchange, its time period and the courses to which you are admitted to.
You create the Online Learning Agreement in MoveOn.
4. Before you arrive
Once you have been admitted and applied for your exchange courses you want to have a look at the checklist for exchange students. It covers all you need to consider before arriving in Uppsala.
The checklist also contains some advice on what to do once you have arrived.
5. Activate student account and register for your courses
You need to activate your student account at Uppsala University in order to get access to the learning platform Studium, university networks, printers and more.
Once you have activated your account you can register for your courses in Ladok. You must register for all of your courses
If you do not register by the last registration date, you may lose your place on the course.
6. After you have arrrived and Welcome Days
Once you completed your application with all the necessary documentation and you have recieved you letter of admission it's a good time to plan for your arrival in Uppsala.
It's recommended that you plan your arrival with the Welcome Programme and the opening hours of the Welcome Center in Uppsala as they offer free transportation from Arlanda airport and other practical help.
