Plan your exchange courses

The Faculty of Science and Technology offers a wide variety of courses for exchange students. Before submitting your application take your time to map out your courses and plan your exchange stay.

Course mapping

Courses at the Faculty of Science and Technology are typically taken concurrently rather than sequentially. When planning your exchange course selection, make sure that:

  • Courses collectively fulfill the required credits.
  • Adhere to your designated study pace.
  • Match the study periods for your exchange.
  • You meet the entry requirements.

Detailed information for each course is available under the "Application and Requirements" tab in the respective course description.

You can choose courses based on your preferences as long as they adhere to your exchange agreement. Be mindful of potential scheduling conflicts when selecting courses outside the framework of a programme syllabus.

Keep in mind that changing your courses after you have been admitted will be extremely limited since most classes are very full and there is no add/drop period.

Consider the following when course mapping

As a full-time student you take courses worth a total of 30 credits per semester. Each semester is divided into two periods. Each period should contain 15 credits worth of courses at full-time studies.

The academic year is divided into four study periods, each lasting around 8 weeks. It's important to note that not all courses are available during each study period; specific details regarding course availability are outlined in the respective course descriptions.

Please be aware that formal holiday breaks do not occur during the semester. However, short breaks are scheduled around Christmas and Easter.

The academic year, study periods, schedule free dates and exam periods.

For an evenly distributed study load, full-time students should aim for a 100% study load in each study period.

It's important to note that not all courses at the Faculty of Science and Technology follow a 100% study pace. Instead, multiple courses with lighter study paces, such as 33% or 67%, are taken in parallel.

Examples of Credit and Study Load Combinations:

  1. Scenario 1:
    • Three 5-credit courses at a 33% study pace in a single period.
  2. Scenario 2:
    • One 5-credit course at a 33% study pace
    • One 10-credit course at a 66% study load
    • Both courses taken in a single period.
  3. Scenario 3:
    • Two 5-credit courses at a 33% study pace in the first period.
    • One 10-credit course at a 33% study pace spanning two periods.
    • Two 5-credit courses at a 33% study pace in the second period.

Make sure you meet the entry requirements for the courses you are interested in taking during your exchange. Detailed entry requirements are found in the course description.

You can only be registered on courses you are qualified for.

When a specific Uppsala University course name is included in the entry requirements you should search for the syllabus for that course and read through the learning outcomes and course content described. If you have encountered the same or very similar course content and obtained the same knowledge and understanding as described, you likely fullfill the requirements. You should refer to those specific courses (from your transcript) in the space provided for the purpose when you make your course choices in MoveOn.
