Being a note-taker

An assignment as a note-taker means that you share your notes from lectures and seminars in a course with one or more students via a collaboration space on Studium.

Your assignment is tied to a specific course and presupposes that there is a student who has been granted note-taking supports. Note-taking support can be granted to students whose disabilities make it difficult to listen and take notes at the same time. Please note that as a note-taker, you are not allowed to share who you provide your notes to.

Collaboration space in Studium

In Studium, you create a collaboration space where you add the student(s) who have been granted note-taking support. Here, you upload your notes after each lecture. You are not expected to do any post-processing of the notes and should share them within 24 hours.

Instructions on how to share notes in Studium

The notes

Write clear notes, preferably using headings and subheadings. The notes should add something beyond the written material provided by the lecturer.

It is recommended to write on a computer, as many students use speech synthesis programs for reading. If you cannot write on a computer for various reasons (e.g., in courses like mathematics, physics, and chemistry), you can instead photograph or scan your handwritten notes and upload them to Studium.

Compensation

The compensation for the assignment varies depending on how many university credits the course includes. The compensation is always the same regardless of the number of students you share notes with. The term fee is 4000 SEK before tax in cases where the assignment has been full-time for an entire term. Adjustments to the compensation may occur based on changes in scope, such as significant absences.

Examples of compensation before tax:

  • 30 credits: 4000 SEK
  • 15 credits: 2000 SEK
  • 7,5 credits: 1000 SEK

The compensation is paid in one installment after the assignment is completed. It will be paid no later than three months after the end of the term, provided that the correct information has been submitted.

The assignment is not considered employment. It does not qualify for unemployment benefits or occupational pension. A 30% tax is deducted. If you do not want the tax to be deducted, you must request a tax adjustment from the Swedish Tax Agency. No other costs are reimbursed. In order to receive compensation, a Swedish personal ID number is required for tax reasons.

To receive compensation, you as a note-taker must:

When you receive your assignment:

  • Provide your name, Swedish personal ID number, email address, and phone number, as well as the name of the student(s) you are sharing notes with, to: arvodenstudentstod@uu.se.

After completing the assignment:

  1. Register your personal data in Primula, the University's time reporting system. (You just have to register, do not log in; ignore the email you receive).
  2. Register your bank details with Danske Bank.
  3. Fill your information in this form.

If you are unable to attend

If you are sick or unable to attend a lecture on a single occasion, you must information the recipient(s) so they are aware that no notes will be available from that session.

If you will be absent for a longer period or have questions about compensation, contact the coordinators for targeted study support: riktatstod@uu.se.
