About the course
Irish is the first official language of Ireland, the everyday language of communities in parts of the country, an official and working language of the European Union and is learned by all Irish children at school. This course will introduce you to the basics of the language and elements of Irish culture. By the end of the course, you will be able to hold a basic conversation and read elementary texts in the language.
Outline for distance course: The distance course is based on self-study and communication through the web-based learning environment, which contains all information regarding the course and course activities. Teaching takes the form of study instructions, exercises, and discussions, as well as optional weekly meetings for conversation practice. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required to follow the course since all teaching and examinations are done online. Taking a distance course means that you yourself largely determine when you study since you are not as tied to scheduled classes. Note, however, that this kind of course requires as much effort as an ordinary campus course and that it is equally important to meet set deadlines.
