A Bachelor's degree, equivalent to a Swedish Kandidatexamen, from an internationally recognised university

Learning outcomes

The objective of the course is to give an in-depth knowledge of the history of ideas and theoretical development of anthropology.

After accomplishing the course the student is expected to:

- Independently discuss central problem areas within anthropological theory with special focus on the constantly topical questions about the relation between the universally given and the socially constructed in modern anthropology.

Content

The course deals with central problem areas of anthropological theory with special focus on the constantly topical questions about the relation between the universally and the given ('nature') and the particular and socially constructed ('culture').

Instruction

The course is comprised of one or more of the following forms: lectures, seminars and/or counselling. Language of instruction is possibly English.

Assessment

The examination will be in one or more of the following forms: home exam, memo writing, group work, active seminar participation and/or oral exam. The course will be graded pass with distinction (VG), pass (G) or fail (U).
