Learning outcomes
On completion of this course, to be given the grade Pass, the student should at least be able:
- account for the classification of the Iranian languages into East and West Iranian languages,
- account for the most important phonological differences between Northwest and Southwest Iranian languages,
- account for the most important grammatical differences between Middle Persian and early New Persian,
- account for "split ergativity" in West-Iranian languages,
- describe the Middle Persian orthography, phonology and elementary morphosyntax, using basic linguistic terminology and apply this knowledge for reading Middle Persian texts
- read simple selected Middle Persian texts and translate them into Swedish.
Content
The course intends to give basic skills in Middle Persian and ability to analyse grammatical constructions in Middle and Early New Persian from a diachronic perspective.
Instruction
The instruction consists of lectures, workshops/tutorials and exams. The student's own learning activities are crucial for the completion of the course.
Assessment
The students will be assessed through a combination of different forms of assessment. These can be oral or written. They can take place at scheduled time and location (for example within the scope of regular teaching), or be carried out by the student on his/her own. There will be instructions about this at the beginning of the course.

The course may not be included in a degree if equivalent parts have been read within another course included in the degree.
