EMBER-IPV: Evaluation of a resilience-based intervention for women subjected to intimate partner violence

The purpose of the project is to systematically evaluate the resilience-based intervention used at NCK’s specialist clinic at Uppsala University Hospital, with focus on resilience factors and the emotion shame. The goal is to contribute to increased knowledge regarding treatment and recovery after intimate partner violence.

DOCTORAL PROJECT Despite research on factors correlating with recovery after intimate partner violence, there is still a lack of available evidence-based clinical interventions for this patient group in Sweden.

Due to this fact, a biopsychosocial intervention based on the Resilience Portfolio Model and cognitive behaviour theory has been developed at NCK’s specialist clinic at Uppsala University Hospital. The purpose of this doctoral project is to systematically evaluate this resilience-based intervention in a clinical setting using multi-method triangulation. As the emotion shame is an important factor in the context, an additional focus point is validation of psychometric shame measures in the population women subjected to intimate partner violence and/or sexual violence.

The project aims to increase knowledge of recovery after intimate partner violence, thereby contributing to availability of evidence-based care, thus decreasing the negative consequences for the individual as well as on a societal level.
