How to get to Uppsala

The city of Uppsala is conveniently located a short train or bus ride from Stockholm-Arlanda Airport. The train station (Arlanda C) is centrally located in the Sky City part of the airport. NOTE: Be careful to purchase the correct ticket for your train, as several train companies (SJ, SL, Mälartåg) run trains between Arlanda and Uppsala with partly separate ticketing systems.

If transferring by taxi, be aware that taxi fares are not regulated in Sweden. To avoid paying too much for the trip (the cost should not be more than about 700 SEK), you can go for one of the larger, established taxi companies – either Uppsala Taxi or Taxi Kurir.

It is also possible to travel by train directly from continental Europe, with high-speed train from Copenhagen as well as night train connections from Hamburg and Berlin available. Usually, this also requires changing to a local or regional train in Stockholm to get to Uppsala.

Things to do in Uppsala

On Destination Uppsala, the official vistor guide to Uppsala, you will find city guides, with information about sights and experiences no one should miss when visiting Uppsala.

Discover everything from the city’s rich history and viking heritage to cozy cafes for Swedish Fika, from art museums to upcoming concerts and events.

Tip: Every week the site lists what's happening right now, on the This Week in Uppsala page, which you can check out just before arriving to Uppsala.

(For instance, if you are interested in the viking heritage, there is a Vendel Age Festival taking place by the Royal Mounds in Old Uppsala (Gamla Uppsala) the weekend after the conference: 13-15 June. During the festival, re-enactors showcase Vendel age equipment, clothing and jewelry, combinded with lectures, guided tours, etc.)
