Stefan James awarded the Swedish Society of Medicine's Jubilee Prize 2025
Professor Stefan James has been awarded the Swedish Society of Medicine's Jubilee Prize 2025 for his pioneering work with clinical studies that have improved the treatment of patients with cardiovascular disease, both in Sweden and internationally.

Stefan James is a professor of cardiology at the Department of Medical Sciences and at Uppsala Clinical Research Centre, Uppsala University, as well as a senior physician in interventional cardiology at Uppsala University Hospital.
Stefan James is awarded the Jubilee Prize for his groundbreaking evaluation of new treatment strategies involving drugs and medical devices. His work has significantly improved the treatment of cardiovascular patients in Sweden and around the world. Stefan James conducts world-leading research with the support of our quality registers, among other things, and is also a prominent role model as a research leader.
‘It is a pleasure to highlight and reward Stefan James for his very important work. Through large, innovative, register-based and randomised clinical studies, Stefan James has improved treatment and care for patients with heart disease around the world,’ says Catharina Ihre Lundgren, Chair of the Swedish Society of Medicine.
‘I am very honoured and happy to receive this recognition. Receiving this award from the Swedish Medical Association is one of the most honourable things I can imagine, precisely because it is awarded by colleagues and is based on science with clinical significance,’ says Stefan James.
The award will be presented during the Swedish Society of Medicine's Annual Ceremony on 21 October 2025, and the winner will receive 175,000 Swedish kronor and the SLS silver medal.
About the Jubilee Prize
The Swedish Society of Medicine has awarded the Jubilee Prize since 1858. The purpose of the prize is to reward valuable writings by Swedish citizens on topics related to medical research.
