PLATINEA
Antibiotic resistance is a global problem. Infections caused by resistant bacteria currently lead to 500,000 deaths annually, and with the current trend, this number is expected to rise to 10 million by 2050. PLATINEA is a collaborative platform aimed at improving the availability and use of antibiotics, involving 21 stakeholders from authorities, healthcare, academia, and industry. Based on a broad and systematic needs assessment, optimization and intervention studies are conducted to promote more rational use of antibiotics. We lead one of the work packages within PLATINEA, with the aim of creating new knowledge on how the dosing of existing antibiotics can be optimized and personalized based on patient-, infection-, and bacteria-related factors, as well as the relationship between antibiotic exposure and effect, resistance development, and unwanted side effects.
