Theory and Methods for Psychological Measurement

Syllabus

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student should be able to

account for the theoretical foundations of psychological measurement with regard to central psychological data collection methods
discuss and evaluate the reliability of different types of psychological data collection methods
be able to choose the data collection method and assess its applicability to various psychological problems

Content

The course presents measurement methods in psychology - theory and application - currently qualitative method, item response theory, questionnaire, implicit measurement, observation, psychophysics, modeling, brain imaging, and motion measurement.

Instruction

The teaching is given in the form of lessons, seminars and demonstrations. Teaching is given in English.

Entry requirements

Basic knowledge of scientific methods applied within the subject of psychology.

Assessment

The student's knowledge is assessed with written individual tests. Also, active participation in seminars and demonstrations is required and involves the submission of shorter papers in which the student applies parts of the course content to their own research. Grades passed and failed is applied.
