MARGIN Network
With the support of Forte's network grant, we have launched the MARGIN network in 2025: a network on trauma and violence aware research with patient and public involvement (PPI) from marginalised groups. The aim is to help ensure that this is carried out in a meaningful and ethical way.
PPI methods are recognised in international health research and are increasingly encouraged by Swedish research funders. However, there are many legal, practical and cultural considerations that are specific to different contexts. We, the initiators of this network, are researchers and professionals in fields such as public health, medicine, psychology, medical law and Nordic languages - spread across universities, colleges and clinical practices around Sweden. Some of us are experienced in PPI research while others are experienced in working with and researching trauma and violence.
In the MARGIN network, we want to create space to share methods, experiences, good examples and ethical issues. We know that important work is going on, but we see a lack of interdisciplinary knowledge exchange and arenas to learn from each other. The network is intended to be a platform for adapting international knowledge to the Swedish academic context, and making it available.
The network will offer, among other things, joint and open seminars, which will be announced here, and position papers. On this website, we plan to gather resources and recommendations for PPI research for other researchers to take part in.
