Patient and Public Involvement in CHAP
Over the past decade, CHAP has developed a specialisation in children's voices in research. In line with that development, we are increasingly working with patient and public involvement: we want to do our research with children and families, not just about children and families.
The active participation of children and families is important and useful in all parts of the research process. It can improve research ideas and study implementation, and provide important ideas about who should benefit from the results of studies and how this should be communicated.
Here we have summarised the different patient and public involvement initiatives that exist within CHAP.
CHAP Child Panel
CHAP's motto is For children and families - with children and families. Over the past decade, we have worked to raise the voices of children in research. In 2025, we are launching CHAP's own Child Panel where we invite children to act as experts on just that - what it is like to be a child.

MARGIN Network
With the support of Forte's network grant, we have launched the MARGIN network in 2025: a network on trauma and violence aware research with patient and public involvement from marginalised groups. The aim is to help ensure that this is carried out in a meaningful and ethical way.
