Sustainable materials and material flows
Materials science and technology is a broad and strong top-quality research area at Uppsala University. It covers the entire spectrum from quantum and atomic level via synthesis and analysis methods to manufacturing, testing and final applications.
Sustainable materials and material flows, from the acquisition and processing of raw materials to their safe use and the final treatment of residual products, are of vital importance to the societies of the future.
Uppsala University is home to particularly high-quality research in the area of sustainable materials and material flows. Uppsala University plays an important role as a core partner in the large-scale Wallenberg Initiative Materials Science for Sustainability (WISE).

Other research projects have funding from the European Union, the European Institute of Innovation and Technology, the Swedish Research Council and several other funding bodies in Sweden.
Research infrastructure
The Disciplinary Domain of Science and Technology also encompasses national infrastructure facilities such as Myfab Uppsala and Tandem Laboratory. In addition, research groups at the University are deeply engaged in the development and use of large-scale facilities such as Max IV and ESS.
