Hello Mathias Hallberg, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Chair of the Pedagogical Academy, which is now ready to welcome new distinguished university teachers through this year’s call for applications.
As a distinguished university teacher yourself, why do you think people should apply?
“If you have a strong interest in pedagogy, have worked with course development and are passionate about teaching, I believe the role of a distinguished university teacher would appeal to you. Newly admitted teachers become part of the Pedagogical Academy, which is a meeting place that opens doors to increased collaboration with like-minded colleagues. If you are curious about how to develop as a teacher and inspire others, you should definitely apply.”
Who is eligible to apply?
“All research-active teachers within the disciplinary domain are eligible to apply. In addition, employees of Region Uppsala may also apply, provided that they are highly active in teaching and research within the disciplinary domain. A basic requirement is that applicants must have completed at least ten weeks of higher education pedagogy training, although most applicants have completed more than this.”
What does it mean to be part of the Pedagogical Academy?
“The Pedagogical Academy is a preparatory and advisory body to the Disciplinary Domain Board on matters relating to pedagogy and didactics. Its mission is to drive pedagogical development and strengthen the conditions for teaching staff. The academy meets twice per semester and addresses issues such as continuing professional development, educational quality, mentorship and pedagogical development. The work also includes collegial exchange of experience, seminars and educational retreats, as well as national and international collaboration.”
A great deal is happening within the Pedagogical Academy – can you tell us about the work ahead?
“In the near future, a new mentoring programme will be launched for Associate Senior Lecturers and staff holding Gullstrand positions. At the same time, the continuing professional development programme for teachers within Medfarm will continue, with workshops on AI, pedagogical coffee meetings and seminars, including on constructive alignment. From 1 July 2026, step two will begin, in which at least one distinguished university teacher from the Pedagogical Academy will be included in GRUNK, GRUFF, KUF and two recruitment groups. This will strengthen the Academy’s contribution to the activities of the disciplinary domain.”
Do you have any final remarks?
“Nothing more than that I am genuinely looking forward to the year ahead and hope that we receive many strong applications.”
