Titel: Rate independent evolutions in the convex and the non-convex case
Abstract: I will review some results on rate independent systems also known as quasi steady evolutions. In case of a convex potential, solutions are shown to be unique and smooth with natural limitations on their regularity. In the non-convex case jumps do occur. In order to establish a proper energy equality over the jumps two-speed solutions are introduced. I will also discuss some recent research related to elasto-plasticity, which is one of the main motivations to study rate-independent evolutions. The work was established in collaboration with B. Benesova, T. Biswas, F. Rindler, E. Suli and J. Velazquez.
