Unravelling the High Reactivity of PBF-LB Mg and Zn Alloys

About

My project aims to understand the mechanism behind the higher degradation of Magnesium and Zinc alloys produced by additive manufacturing. These biodegradable metals have great potential for medical implants that safely dissolve in the body, without the necessity for a second surgery. Therefore, by studying how the manufacturing process affects the corrosion behaviour, we hope to contribute to the development of safer, customizable and more reliable implants for the healthcare.

Background

I hold a Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering and a Master's degree in Bioengineering from the University of Padua, Italy. During my studies, I developed a strong interest in materials science, which led me to join the Metallurgy Group for my master's thesis. My research focused on how additive manufacturing and heat treatments influence the corrosion behaviour of Ti6Al4V alloys. After graduating, I spent one year as a research assistant in the same group, continuing to investigate the corrosion performance of additively manufactured metallic materials.
