BioMaterial Systems

Forskargruppen BMS leds av Prof. Cecilia Persson och utvecklar material och implantat för och genom additiv tillverkning.
Vi bedriver tvärvetenskaplig forskning med medlemmar från materialvetenskap, biomedicinsk teknik, maskinteknik, beräkningsvetenskap och biologi. Tillsammans utvecklar vi material och implantat för och genom additiv tillverkning.
Vår vision är att vara en samlingsplats för framstående forskare inom medicinsk teknik, särskilt de som strävar efter att koppla grundforskning till klinisk tillämpning, det vill säga att utveckla biomaterialet för det tänkta systemet.
Vårt uppdrag är att bidra med ny kunskap och bättre lösningar på medicinska problem, där biomaterialet eller implantatets utformning kan vara den förändring som behövs.

Research Focus
Forskargruppen BioMaterial Systems (BMS) fokuserar på att studera, utveckla och karakterisera nya material och implantatdesigner, främst för ortopediska tillämpningar. Fokus ligger på biomaterialutveckling för och genom additiv tillverkning (3D-printning). Numeriska och experimentella modeller används för att studera materialen samt interaktionen mellan implantat och vävnad. Tidiga biokompatibilitetsstudier kan utföras inom gruppen, medan vidare steg mot klinisk tillämpning och/eller kommersiell produkt sker i samarbete med exempelvis Akademiska sjukhuset i Uppsala.
BMS-gruppen bedriver tvärvetenskaplig forskning och arbetar inom följande kompetensområden:
