Adapted web-based exercise program to promote physical activity for people with disabilities
An adapted web-based exercise program to promote physical activity for people with disabilities is being conducted in collaboration with the Department of Health Sciences at Mid Sweden University and the Swedish Winter Sports Research Centre. The project aims to increase knowledge about and promote physical activity for older adults and individuals with intellectual disabilities.
Project description
Physical inactivity poses a significant health risk, especially among two vulnerable groups: older adults and people with intellectual disabilities (ID). Among older adults, reduced physical activity and low muscle mass are associated with increased risk of falls, fractures and overall poor health. Likewise, people with ID face challenges in maintaining regular levels of physical activity, leading to higher body mass index (BMI) and increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Worrying statistics show that a significant percentage of older adults and people with disabilities do not meet recommended levels of physical activity, underlining the urgent need for effective strategies to promote exercise engagement in these populations.

Innovative approaches are needed to promote exercise engagement and improve health outcomes in older adults and people with intellectual disabilities.
