Radiological biomarkers in severe fatigue caused by multiple sclerosis

The project is conducted as part of a larger study at Örebro University. Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a neurological disease in which the covering around the nerve fibres in the brain and spinal cord is damaged. Since the damage in MS can occur in different places, the symptoms also vary. One symptom is fatigue, which can be likened to an abnormal and severe tiredness. However, fatigue does not affect all people with MS, and people with fatigue do not always have the same symptoms. This project is studying whether MRI scans can find differences between people with and without fatigue.

Project description

The project involves people with MS and without MS. Participants undergo MRI scans and tests to measure fatigue, including different types of fatigue (mental and physical).

Some of the tests are done in the MRI scanner to find differences in how the brain is activated during different tasks. By using different types of MRI scans, the project hopes to find differences in brain structure or function between people with and without fatigue.
