Galenic pharmacy
The subject of Galenic Pharmacy is one of the core disciplines in pharmacy and can be succinctly described as the science of designing, manufacturing, and administering ready-to-use medications.
A ready-to-use medication consists not only of an active substance but is a composition of various chemical or biological agents. This is necessary to optimize the medical benefits and usability of the product. Medicinal products are designed in various ways depending on the route of administration, function, and patient group. The development of ready-to-use medications is therefore multifaceted, and Galenic Pharmacy is inherently interdisciplinary. Within Galenic Pharmacy, the physical and technical properties of drug substances and excipients are addressed, as well as the technical processes used in the manufacturing of pharmaceutical preparations, production lines, and quality assurance of production.
