Description
In the "INSOMNIAC" project we want to improve and make more effective the local health care by evaluating and improving the web-based cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia (iKBT-i) which is currently in use in primary care in Region Uppsala. By integrating a web-based aid for physical activity, inspired by the concept "Fysisk aktivitet på recept" (FaR) (prescriptions for physical activity), into the existing iKBT-i framework, we hope to improve sleep quality and the well-being of adults with sleep problems.
In the first phase of the project, a web-based treatment plan was developed within Region Uppsala's platform for digital treatment interventions (1177 Stöd och behandling) which had the aim to encourage physical activity in adults seeking help for sleep difficulties. Patients, treating health care staff, researchers, and web designers were involved in the co-design process used to develop the tool, which was documented in a scientific manner.
In the next phase of the project, the new treatment plan (iKBT-i + physical activity) will be tested against existing iKBT-i in order to collect information on feasability and preliminary results. In the final phase, the goal is to compare effects between the two approaches in a larger, randomised controlled clinical trial.
The project has the potential to affect the mental and physical well-being in the treated individuals, and can contribute to increased accessibility by making health care more digitalised, which benefits patients as well as health care staff.
