Description
The aim of the project is to increase our understanding for healthcare governance in Sweden by investigating two forms of steering, networks and agreements, in four case studies. A specific focus will be on the relation between such steering and the specific decentralized context, with far-reaching local self-governing in a unitary state, that Swedish healthcare constitutes. The background is the changes in steering related to healthcare in Sweden the last decades and the problems as well as possibilities that this brings. Furthermore, the importance of understanding better the influence of decentralization and the central-local relation on governance became clear in the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite being an aspect often recognized as important in the international literature, this perspective has seldom been applied to governance in Sweden.
