Book a time slot in the defence calendar

Do not book licentiate seminars in the defence calendar.

In the calendar, the doctoral student can book a first choice, that is, the time slot when they intend to hold the public defence. The first choice will remain unless the doctoral student removes the time in the defence calendar themselves.

In addition to the first choice, it is also possible to book a second choice for the public defence if the first choice, for some reason, does not work.

A second choice must be booked more than six months in advance. The second choice is valid for two months from the date of booking. Therefore, to avoid automatic cancellation of the second choice, it must be rebooked before these two months have passed. Please note that it is not possible to have a second choice booked less than six months before the date of the first choice.

In the defence calendar, there are three booking options for the Disciplinary Domain of Medicine and Pharmacy:

• Pharmaceutical
• Clinical
• Preclinical

When booking the defence time slot, it is critical to select the correct tab in the calendar for the subject area to which the thesis belongs. Consequently, it is not allowed to choose any time slot in the defence calendar, and the booked time slot must not clash with another doctoral student’s time slot if it belongs to the same subject area.

Book well in advance, 6–12 months before the public defence. The time slots in May get booked up quickly.

Please note that you are not allowed to defend your thesis on certain academic holidays. This applies to the day of the Doctoral Degree Conferment Ceremony, the day before the Conferment Ceremony and the day of the Inauguration of Professors. These dates are blocked in the defence calendar.
