Master's degrees

Degree of Master (60 credits)

A Degree of Master (60 credits) (Magisterexamen) is awarded after a student has completed courses totalling 60 credits. At least 30 credits must be Master's level courses in the main field of study, including at thesis of at least 15 credits. In addition the prior award of a Bachelor's degree or a professional degree of at least 180 credits.

In addition to Master's level courses, Bachelor's level courses of a maximum of 15 credits may be included in the degree.

The specialisation of the degree is indicated in the title of the degree, which is determined by the faculty affiliation of the main field of study.

Degree of Master (120 credits)

A Degree of Master (120 credits) (Masterexamen) is awarded after a student has completed courses totalling 120credits. At least 60 credits must be Master's level courses in the main field of study, including at thesis of at least 30 credits. In addition the prior award of a Bachelor's degree or a professional degree of at least 180 credits.

If the student has already completed a Master's thesis of at least 15 credits the thesis may comprise less than 30 credits, however no less than 15 credits.

In addition to Master's level courses, Bachelor's level courses of a maximum of 30 credits may be included in the degree.

The specialisation of the degree is indicated in the title of the degree, which is determined by the faculty affiliation of the main field of study.

A Master of Arts in Theology (Teologie magisterexamen or Teologie masterexamen) is awarded with one of the following main fields of study:

  • Euroculture
  • Human Rights
  • International Humanitarian Action
  • Religious Studies

Until 30 July 2025, a Master of Arts in Theology may also be awarded with one of the following main fields of study:

  • Biblical Exegesis
  • History and Social Sciences of Religion
  • Studies in Church and Mission
  • Studies in Faiths and Worldviews

A Master of Laws (60 credits) (LLM, Juris magisterexamen) is awarded with Legal Science as the main field of study, provided that the student has completed a Master's programme of 60 credits within the Faculty of Law.

A Master of Legal Science (Juris magisterexamen or Juris masterexamen) is awarded with Legal Science as the main field of study.

A Master of Medical Science (Medicine magisterexamen or Medicine masterexamen) is awarded with one of the following main fields of study:

  • Biomedical Laboratory Science
  • Biomedicine
  • Forensic Science
  • Global Health
  • Learning for Sustainable Development and Global Health
  • Medical Nuclide Techniques
  • Medical Science
  • Medicine/Physiology
  • Molecular Medicine
  • Precision Medicine

  • Reproductive Health
  • Speech and Language Pathology

A Master of Medical Science (60 credits) (Medicine magisterexamen) is awarded with one of the following main fields of study:

  • Caring Sciences
  • Physiotherapy

In addition, a Master of Medical Science (120 credits) (Medicine masterexamen) is awarded with Infection Biology as the main field of study.

A Master of Pharmaceutical Science (Farmacie magisterexamen or Farmacie masterexamen) is awarded with one of the following main fields of study:

  • Drug Discovery and Development
  • Drug Management
  • Pharmaceutical Chemistry
  • Pharmaceutical Sciences

In addition, a Master of Pharmaceutical Science (60 credits) (Farmacie magisterexamen) is awarded with Clinical Pharmacy as the main field of study.

A Master of Arts (Filosofie magisterexamen or Filosofie masterexamen) is awarded with one of the following main fields of study:
