Venedig).

The climate crisis is also a crisis of heritage. In the future, many coastal heritage sites will be drowned by rising waters, and climate displacement will lead to abandoned and dilapidated sites. Climate issues are inextricably linked to injustices within and between generations and engage an intersectional discourse on heritage: not all heritage is equally protected, nor are heritage-related rights equally safeguarded. This dissertation explores two key questions: 1) what law could do if a heritage site drowns or is at risk of drowning, and 2) what law should do to protect heritage from drowning. The focus is on responsibilities arising from future generations’ heritage-related rights from the perspective of critical environmental law and (eco)feminism. The study approaches heritage and future generations broadly as wholes, encompassing both culture and nature, human and non-human.
