Dr. Abdul Alim är en immunolog med fokus på cancerimmunologi och inflammation, särskilt mastceller och T-celler vid lungmetastasering. Han avlade sin doktorsexamen i medicinsk vetenskap vid Uppsala universitet. Han har bedrivit forskning vid flera institutioner, inklusive University of Cambridge, Karolinska Institutet, Linköpings universitet och Örebro universitet. Han uppskattar samarbete, vetenskapliga upptäckter och ägnar sig på fritiden åt trädgårdsarbete, fiske och badminton.

Forskning
Dr. Abdul Alims forskning undersöker det komplexa samspelet mellan immunsystemet och cancer, med särskilt fokus på mastceller och T-celler vid utveckling och progression av lungmetastasering.
Genom att kombinera cellulär immunologi, molekylärbiologi och translationella metoder strävar Dr. Alim efter att identifiera nya immunreglerande mekanismer som kan ligga till grund för innovativa terapier. Genom att bygga broar mellan grundforskning och kliniskt relevanta cancermodeller vill hans forskning bidra till att hitta nya målstrukturer för behandling av cancer, inflammation, autoimmunitet och diabetes.
Dr. Alims arbete, drivet av nyfikenhet och samarbete, bidrar till en fördjupad förståelse av hur immuncellers plasticitet och metabolism påverkar sjukdomsförlopp. Det långsiktiga målet är att omsätta immunologiska upptäckter till effektiva behandlingar som främjar immunbalans och förbättrar patienters hälsa.

Cancer och dess metastaser orsakar många dödsfall. Immunceller spelar en dubbel roll under dessa processer. De kan döda cancercellerna, men kan också främja metastaser.
