Arnaud le Febvrier received his Ph.D. degree in 2012 in materials science (Chemistry) at the University of Rennes (France) working on oxide films for ferroelectricity and piezoelectricity. He has continued his career with a Postdoctoral fellowship in NIMS (National institute for material science) in Tsukuba (Japan) working on oxynitride films for optoelectronic applications. He finally arrived in Sweden in 2015 to pursue his career in academia with several positions at Linköping University (Postdoctoral fellowship, Assistant Professor, Senior Staff Scientist) for a total of 9 years. In 2021, Arnaud le Febvrier received the title of Docent in materials science from Linköping University. He finally joined Uppsala University as research scientist in September 2024.

He is also part of the early career advisory board of Materials today electronics journal and part of the organizing committee of ICMTF 2025 (San Diego, USA) in the Sustainable Surface Engineering symposium.

His research is focused on fundamental and application-inspired studies of coatings, whereby the defects in the material are introduced/controlled to enhance physical properties. Various applications are aimed: thermoelectricity, hard coating, protective coatings, fuel cell, and optically active coatings are few of them.

Research interest: it involves the design, development, and understanding of physical properties of coating for promising thermoelectric/electrical/mechanical properties by controlling defects in a material. Inserting defects (0D, 1D, 2D, 3D) in a control manner can enhance targeted physical properties. This implies a high level of control of the material synthesis and of understanding the induced properties. He has a particular interest in the control of defects in nanocomposite and their potential in improving and/or opening new doors for several application domains.
