Biografi
My research focuses on social media, gender and political communication. In particular, I have investigated how the governance of online platforms as well as their affordances shape power dynamics in political processes through case studies in a wide variety of contexts, such as the US, Scandinavia and the Middle East. I am currently (2024) involved in three different research projects:
Online Platforms and the Challenges of Democratic Exclusion (PI, 2022-2025, Swedish Research Council) This project focuses on platform governance from a perspective of feminist democratic theory, and will study the democratic consequences of “deplatforming” and other types of exclusion strategies employed by online platforms.
Shaping the Online Public Sphere: How and Why do Democracies Regulate Social Media Platforms and with what Consequences? (PI: Ludvig Norman, Stockholm University, 2024-2028, Wallenberg Foundations) In this project we study the efforts of democratic states to regulate social media platforms, what the actual effects of such efforts are on the digital public sphere and the extent to which regulations are normatively defensible.
MEN4DEM 'Masculinities for the future of European democracy' (PI: Liza Mügge, University of Amsterdam, 2025-2027, Horizon Europe) This project will systematically explore how masculinity is constructed and mobilized by the extreme right in Europe. My research will focus on far right influencers and misogynistic online communities.
