EAARN - East African Astrophysics Research Network
EAARN is a collaboration between astrophysicists in three East African countries:
- Ethiopia
- Rwanda
- Uganda
The ISP supported groups at Mbarara University of Science and Technology, Uganda and University of Rwanda College of Education are members of the network, as well as groups at the Entoto Observatory and Research Center in Ethiopia and Makerere University and Muni University in Uganda. The network is coordinated by Dr Simon Anguma.
ISP support to the network started in 2014.
Objectives
The main objectives are to significantly contribute to the training of skilled human resources and improve the research capacity in Astrophysics/Astronomy in the East African region. There is inadequate research capacity in astrophysics in the East African region, although astrophysics is very crucial and vital for societal transformation due to the numerous technological spin-offs from astrophysics research. Therefore, there is need to train and develop human resource in astrophysics to appreciate and nurture the right perspectives about our home in the universe.
