Organisation
The Department of Government is governed by a number of decision-making and advisory bodies. The department is obliged to establish some of these (in accordance with the university's rules of procedure, the Vice-Chancellor's decisions and other documents). Other bodies - often advisory - can be established by the department itself following a decision by the head of department or department board. According to the university's rules of procedure, a department is headed by a head of department and a departmental board, unless the Vice Chancellor has decided otherwise in an individual case.
Head of Department
A department is headed by a head of department and a department board, unless the Vice-Chancellor has decided otherwise in an individual case. The head of department is also chair of the board. The head of department has a deputy head of department who is the vice-chair of the board. The deputy head of department takes the place of the head of department when he or she is not on duty and otherwise replaces the head of department to the extent determined by the head of department. A person with scientific competence is authorised to act as head of department or deputy head of department.
The Board
The Department Board consists of six members appointed by teachers and researchers, one member appointed by technical-administrative staff and four members appointed by students. Among the members appointed by teachers and researchers, it is desirable that there are representatives from both the group of associate professors and the group of researchers without associate professorships, and among the members representing the students, it is desirable that both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels are represented.

Advisory and decision-making bodies
The Department of Government has the following bodies. These bodies are usually advisory bodies where decisions are made by the department board or head of department. In some cases, the bodies are also decision-making bodies based on delegation from the head of department or department board. In all bodies that make decisions with consequences for the content and quality of education, a majority of the members must have scientific competence.
