Harmful use of alcohol and drugs can start early in life. An early onset of substance use, as compared to a late onset, is related to worse prognosis, higher morbidity and higher mortality. In one research project changes in alcohol use over time is investigated in adolescents and young adults, recruited both from the general population and from a psychiatric outpatient unit.

Digital media use has increased significantly among young people. In one of our projects, we investigate the use of digital games and social media, how this use relates to psychiatric symptoms over time, and what motivates adolescents with ADHD to use digital media.
