The research group of Functional Pharmacology and Neuroscience conducts pharmacological, toxicological, genetic, and behavioral studies related to drugs, environmental toxins, diseases, behaviors, and environmental changes.

The research group use several experimental models, including humans and animals such as flies and mice. They investigate the side effects of drugs to understand the molecular, cell specific and genetic causes behind their toxic effects. They examine the mechanisms of environmental toxins impact, in connection with several diseases and identify blood biomarkers for diagnosing different conditions. They study various types of behaviors, such as food intake and addiction, and attempt to elucidate the molecular mechanisms. They also map large gene and protein families as well as molecular signaling pathways.

The group has an interdisciplinary environment that promotes career opportunities for doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows. They are a highly productive unit with several high-quality publications and significant citations and the PI is one of the most cited researcher in the world. Their teachers teach on the medical program, the biomedical program, the master's program in biomedicine, and other relevant courses.
