The Library Search Tool searches for all the words you enter. You will also get results for synonyms of your search terms.
Search results where the search terms are close to each other will appear higher in the list of results.
Search for an exact phrase
Put quotation marks (” ”) around a phrase with two or more words. This will give you only results where the words appear in the same order as you wrote them.
Example: "European Union"
Search for variations of words
Use an asterisk (*) to replace one or more letters in a word.
- news* gives results for news, newspaper, newsroom, and so on.
- *data gives results for data, metadata, userdata and so on.
- wom*n gives results for woman and women.
Use parentheses and operators to refine your search
You can control how search terms relate to each other by using parentheses ( ) and the operators AND, OR, and NOT. If you use several operators in the same search, they are interpreted from left to right.
- AND gives results where both the term on the left and the term on the right are present.
Example: women AND EU - OR gives results where either the term on the left or the term on the right is present.
Example: women OR female - NOT gives results where the term on the right does not appear.
Example: international NOT EU - Parentheses ( ) let you group terms and control the order in which operators are applied.
Example: EU AND (climate OR environment)
Expand your search with “Search Full Text”
Activate “Also search in Full Text” in the left-hand menu if you want to search within full texts and not only in titles and abstracts. The search tool will then scan the entire text of digitally available publications.
